Navotas allows limited operations of select businesses

CALOOCAN CITY, Sept. 5 (PIA) -- The Navotas City Government has allowed the partial reopening of personal grooming services like barbershops, parlors, nail salons, and derma clinics, while gyms, internet cafes, tutorial centers and pet grooming services will stay close, the Public Information Office told the PIA-NCR.

Barbershops, parlors and salons are allowed up to 30% of their capacity. Services are limited to haircuts and hair colors. Nail salons may also open at 30% operational capacity and may offer manicure, pedicure, and hand and foot spa services, it said.

Both staff and customers of these establishments must wear masks at all times.

Other services are deemed risky as they entail prolonged stay in the establishment or close interaction between clients and workers.

Meanwhile, derma clinics are allowed to operate strictly by appointment and solely for treatment of skin diseases.

“We decided to place restrictions on these establishments to ensure the steady decline in our positivity rate.  We need to further control the transmission of the virus before we can open more non-essential businesses,” Mayor Toby Tiangco said.

“Like our schools, tutorial centers can adopt distance or online learning so they do not need to conduct face-to-face classes. Their clients, mostly young learners, are also barred from leaving their homes because of our 24-hour curfew for minors. The same goes for internet cafes and computer shops that mostly cater to young clients,” Mayor Toby added.

As for gyms and sports facilities, Tiangco said Navoteños can exercise at the safety of their own homes and in the process, encourage their family members to join and keep a healthy lifestyle.

Pet grooming services are also deemed not urgent as pet owners can do the grooming themselves and avoid going out of their homes. (PIA NCR)
