SAN FERNANDO CITY, Sept. 20 (PIA) – The Philippine Information Agency in the Ilocos (PIA-1) enjoins information officers (IOs) and information communication technology (ICT) advocates to develop their online skills in a training via Zoom app scheduled on September 24.
The training of PIA-1, in partnership with the Association of Regional Government Information Officers (ARGIO-1), aims to encourage the said target participants to utilize online platforms as tool to disseminate information and data.
With this year’s theme: Skills Training on Online Communication Strategies at Work in the New Normal: “IN ang ONline Tech”, PIA-1 has invited training specialist Nicolle Rei Noefe of the Department of Information and Communications Technology-Luzon Cluster 1 and Brenda Ebreo-Padilla, a licensed sign language instructor of the Department of Education-Special Education, to serve as resource speakers during the event.
“Our agency as the information arm of the government deems it necessary to enhance the skills and capabilities of our partners in info dissemination to ensure that public services will not be hampered, especially now that we have a pandemic,” said PIA-1 Regional Director Jennilyne Role.
Further, she said that the training will focus on creative content in producing online information, education and communication (IEC) materials with the use of editing software or other medium of graphics design software as well as the utilization of online meeting apps.
To promote inclusivity, a basic sign language training is also included in the program.
“No one must be left behind, thus including our deaf and mute community to understand government affairs is also very significant, and to teach basic sign language that our partners can use during online activities is just appropriate,” Role said.
Other than the said topics, the training will also support the Dismiss Disinformation program of the Presidential Communications and Operations Office which will be briefly presented by the new PIA Director-General Ramon Cualoping III, including an orientation of the COVID-19 National Action Plan by the Office of Civil Defense in the Ilocos.
PIA is targeting about 100 participants coming from the four provinces of the Ilocos region namely: Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte.
During the first semester of the year, PIA-1 has already conducted four online trainings and fora which highlighted the responsible use of social media and other online digital strategies to bring information to the grassroots level.
“We will continue to provide timely, relevant and accurate training amidst these challenging times because we believe that a well-informed Filipino is an empowered Filipino,” added Role.
In closing, Role said that interested participants may check more information about the training and register online through the official Facebook pages of PIA-1. (JCR/AMB/AHFF/PIA1)
