KALIBO, Aklan, Sept. 24 (PIA) - The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation President of Aklan cited numerous activities and projects which have helped the youth in the province cope amid the pandemic due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
In an interview over the Laging Handa Network Briefing with Secretary Martin Andanar of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) on Wednesday, Aklan SK Federation President Blessie D. Jizmundo said that one of the priority projects of the federation is focusing on education.
The SK Provincial Federation here, in partnership with the Sigaw ng Kabataan Coalition, launched "Project Kababata," which aims to cater to children’s cognitive and mental needs while staying at home.
The Project Kababata was a home quarantine-based activity for a month, wherein every week different sets of activities were given to children who are in Kinder to Grade 4.
According to Jizmundo, a total of 7,541 children aged 4 to 10 years old were the identified beneficiaries of the said project.
Jizmuno also said that there are SK Council officials in different municipalities in the province who implemented their own version of worksheets for their respective barangays, and such were reviewed by their school heads and teachers.
The said worksheets have served as pre-assessment tool of the students for the upcoming opening of classes.
Adhering to the mission to help the youth to have access to quality education, the SK Federation-Aklan is hosting a donation drive, with the theme "Bulig Eskwela: Bulig Mo, Pag-eskwela Ko,” to provide education materials that will be used for the school’s daily operation.
Jizmundo added that recently, there were SK Council officials from the different towns in Aklan who distributed educational kits such as crayons, pencils, notebooks and other school necessities to students.
She said that with the shifting mode of learning due to the pandemic, the SK Federation has provided free access to Internet connections especially in rural areas where connectivity is a great challenge.
This project aims to ease the burden of students, parents and teacher in coping with the demands of distance and online learning. (LTP/SQP/PIA-Aklan)
