PATNANUNGAN, Quezon, Oct 1 (PIA) -- Patients in coastal areas will have better access to healthcare services as its third unit of sea ambulance was formally turned over by the Department of Health - CALABARZON (DOH-4A).
Designed for transporting patients from the island to the nearest health facility and responding to emergencies at sea, the new sea ambulance will aid the local government in its emergency response amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Napakahalaga ng proyektong ito upang tayo ay makapagserbisyo sa ating mamamayan at makapagbigay ng agarang lunas sa mga may sakit at makapagligtas ng buhay,” DOH-4A Regional Director Eduardo Janairo said during the turnover ceremony held in Real last September 23.
Citing the restrictions caused by the pandemic for delaying the construction of the sea ambulance, Janairo said he is grateful that the vehicles can finally serve patients.
Considered as a Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area, Patnanugan has only six barangay health stations and one rural health unit serving its more than 13,000 residents.
Acknowledging the support of the local government, particularly Governor David Suarez, First District Rep. Wilfrido Mark Enverga and Fourth District Rep. Dr. Angelina Tan, the region’s top doctor promised that the government will allot funds to purchase emergency equipment which will be used in rendering their healthcare services.
“Ingatan po natin at bigyang halaga ang paggamit ng sea ambulance na ito dahil ito po ay bunga ng pagkakaisa at pagtutulungan ng mga taong namumuno at likas ang pagmamahal sa bayan, upang maiangat ang antas ng kalusugan at mabigyan ng sapat na serbisyong pangkalusugan ang inyong probinsya,” Janairo reminded.
On September 29, the Provincial Health Office reported that Patnanugan has recorded one (1) confirmed case and one (1) death due to COVID-19, adding to the province’s total of 1,907 confirmed cases--465 of which are active cases--with 1,379 recoveries and 63 fatalities. (with reports from DOH-4A)
