Bacolod City COVID-19 cases dip, business poised to open

BACOLOD CITY, Oct. 29 (PIA)—Bacolod City is now positioning to open business as Corona virus (COVID-19) transmission shows signs of slowing down, Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) Executive Officer Frank Carbon said.

“Bacolod City mayor Evelio Leonardia is confident that the City is now qualified for Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ),” according to Carbon.

On October 27, the city posted two new COVID-19 cases which is the lowest since the month of July 16, City Administrator Em Ang reported.

Because of these developments the hotels, resorts, and restaurants are being readied by the City Tourism Office to accept customers and tourists, he added.

Carbon revealed the City's Emergency Operation Center (EOC) is discussing the possibility of lifting the prohibition of leisure and tourist travel to the city while ferry fast craft between Bacolod and Iloilo Cities is tentatively set to operate on October 31, 2020.

He noted that the Economic Recovery Team of Bacolod City will also recommend measures to generate more jobs and livelihood.

"The Rise-Up program of Land Bank is ready to assist LGUs in their financial need to implement programs to increase the confidence of the businesses to open- up and re-invest," he said.

Earlier, Carbon issued a call for leaders to give emphasis on job generation and livelihood.

He said some local businesses have started to re-open and slowly recovering, “but, it will take some time for local businesses to get back to their pre-covid financial strength.”

The community is at its lowest purchasing power level at the moment, he noted.

To hasten the recovery of the local economy, MBCCI suggests for LGUs to also focus on maintaining peace and security also.

“The MBCCI is ready to assist LGUs in the development of their economic recovery program. Please visit MBCCI office or call 434 3842,” Carbon said. (Lljr/PIA6 Negros Occidental)
