BFAR Kalinga distributes tilapia fingerlings in 12 barangays
CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, Oct. 21 (PIA) - - The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) under the Special Area for Agriculture Development (SAAD) program distributes today 174,000 tilapia fingerlings in 12 barangays including three conflict areas.
Barangays covered in the mass releases are Mabato, Amlao, Balawag, Lacnog, Nambucayan, and Magnao, all of this city; Taloctoc, Mangali and Gaang in Tanudan; and Sukiyap, Lower Uma and Western Uma in Lubuagan.
Aside from these mass releases are also separate distributions to individuals in other municipalities.
Provincial Fisheries Officer Joyce Ducyogen said feeds were also distributed to raise tilapia over a period of five to six months before harvest.
Their harvest is primarily good for home consumption but there are those with more than 100 square meters of fishpond who sell some of their harvest, she said.
She encouraged these small fishpond operators to sustain their fishponds while BFAR continues to provide fingerlings and conduct regular monitoring. (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
