
SANCHEZ MIRA, Cagayan, Oct. 18 (PIA) - - - Despite heavy rains, the Cagayan Police Provincial Office reached out to at least 200 members of the Indigenous Peoples (IP) community at Sitio Pureg in this town through its ‘Bayanihan sa Barangay’.
The ‘Bayanihan sa Barangay’ is a flagship project of Police Regional Director Police Brigadier General Crizaldo Nieves in support to President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order No. 70 which calls for a whole-of-nation-approach in ending local communist armed conflict by bringing closer the programs and services of the government to the communities.
According to Police Lt. Col. Ramon Macarubbo, the pandemic and the weather condition should not hinder the delivery of services to the people especially those in far-flung aeas.
“Tuloy pa rin kami sa aming outreach kahit malakas ang ulan upang ipakita sa ating mga kababayan ang serbisyo ng gobyerno ay patuloy na nilalapit sa mga sitio, [sub-village],” he said
During the activity, Provincial Administrator Col. Darwin Sacramed who represented Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba, underscored the essence of good relationship between the police and members of the community.
He said that gone are those days that residents in the far-flung areas will go to the poblacion area to avail government’s services as through the President’s thrust on whole-of-nation-approach, these programs and services are now brought closer to the people by the local government units, and government agencies.
The CPPO headed by Provincial Director Colonel Ariel Quilang, during the activity, distributed relief packs and used clothes that are in good condition to the IP beneficiaries courtesy of their office, from the Department of Social Welfare and Development and from the Provincial Government of Cagayan. Facemasks and soaps were also distributed to them.

The beneficiaries also received two Portable Solar Dryers from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), a safer way to dry the raw materials of their food products such as came chips, banana chips, silly, among others. The DOST also turned over a number of face shields for them.
In line with CPPO’s Project BIBAR 3 (Binhi para sa Barangay), 500 assorted vegetable seedlings and 55 packs of assorted vegetable seeds were also given to them. At least 40 coconut seedlings were also planted during the tree planting activity.
The Regional Community Affairs Development Division through its chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Reiner Medina distributed at least 260 brand new slippers to the IP children.
On the other hand, the CPPO turned over to the school’s administration of Pureg Elementary School its mini-library where at least 500 new books were donated by the Cagayan Provincial Learning and Resource Center and Sierra Falcones, a non-government organization.
On health, at least 50 residents were able to benefit from the free medical check-up administered by personnel of the Rural Health Unit of the said town and volunteer doctors, five beneficiaries of the free dental services, 15 availed the free optal check-up and 11 young boys were circumcised by medical students of the Cagayan State University Carig campus.

At least 200 both children and adults also availed the free haircut services of the Philippine Marines based in the said town.
For her part, Mayor Asela Sacramed extended her gratitude to all the stakeholders who braved to reach out Sitio Pureg despite unpleasant weather condition during the conduct of the activity.
The mayor assured that in behalf of the LGU-Sanchez Mira, she will closely work with other government agencies to benefit her constituents especially those living in underserved areas.
The residents were also reminded that aside from the services brought to them, there are many more which they can avail.
Harold Nacional, regional director of the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency also lauded the initiative of the PNP for its continuous support for the implementation of EO No. 70.
“This is the true government, mga ahensiya ng gobyerno na mismo ang lumalapit sa inyo,” said Nacional as he urged them not to welcome the terrorist group New People’s Army in their community. (MDCT/PIA-2)
