DOH lauds Malabon for COVID-19 response

CALOOCAN CITY, Oct. 26 (PIA) -- The Department of Health (DOH), through its regional office the Metro Manila Center for Health Development (MMCHD), has recognized Malabon City with the COVID-19 Response Service Award for its efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19, a report by the Daily Tribune said over the weekend.

“The DOH-MMCHD recognizes Malabon City for its relentless implementation of COVID-19 response and ensuring the provision of quality health services in the community,” the inscription on the plaque states.

Malabon City Mayor Lenlen Oreta thanked the DOH-MMCHD for recognizing the city’s response efforts.

“Even if COVID-19 brought an unusual health challenge, it is appropriate that we provide service for the welfare and well-being of Malabonians,” Oreta said.

Malabon City aggressively implemented its “Prevent, Detect/Test, Trace, Quarantine/Isolate, Treat” strategy to combat the spread of COVID-19.

It partnered with the Philippine Red Cross, Bases Conversion and Development Authority and the Philippine Coast Guard to establish a mega-swabbing center at its sports center.

It has also established four city isolation centers to ensure adequate care for those infected by the virus.

Meanwhile, independent group OCTA Research ranked Malabon City in third place with the lowest daily COVID-19 attack rate among the 16 cities and one municipality in the National Capital Region.

The group used and compared data between 20 September and 3 October and 27 September and 10 October.

A lower attack rate means less people are getting infected by the virus.

In its latest update, Malabon has 129 active cases, or 2.43 percent of all confirmed cases. As of 19 October 2020, total confirmed cases have reached 5,304, where 4,973 have already recovered, and 202 died.
