DPWH to turn over P25-M isolation facility

BACOLOD CITY, Oct. 27 (PIA) – A P25-million, 32-room Quarantine and Isolation Facility in Barangay Alijis is set for turn over by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) the to Bacolod City government, October 30.

DPWH built the facility at the former plant nursery of the City Agriculture Office to support Bacolod City's need for additional healthcare facilities for asymptomatic and mild COVID cases.

Bacolod City mayor Evelio Leonardia thanked DPWH Secretary and Chief Isolation Czar Mark Villar, as well as Undersecretary Emil Sadain, and DPWH 6 regional director Leah Delfinado for the facility for free which, according to Leonardia, will save local funds for other COVID-response expenses.

“But beyond that, we can accommodate in these facilities more asymptomatic or mild positive cases that come up as we intensify our contact tracing efforts, and free up the hospitals to take care of the moderate and critical cases,” Leonardia added.

Villar, in September, at the height of COVID-19 cases in Bacolod City, announced that DPWH will ramp up construction of health care facilities in the city to support urgent need for quarantine and isolation centers.

The facility set for turn-over has a comfort room in each of the 32 rooms, with hot-and-cold shower, and air-conditioning system; two female and two male rest quarters for medical and service personnel, two generator sets, two utility rooms, and two nurses’ stations while Bacolod City will take care of the water, electricity and maintenance of the facility.

Prior to the October 30 turnover, Leonardia and other city officials inspected the P25-million facility.

Leonardia has written Secretary Villar asking for the construction of another 32 rooms with similar configurations in the same area because of available space. *(LTP/EAD-PIA6 Negros Occidental)
