DSWD assures continuing assistance to vulnerable sectors affected by COVID

BAGUIO CITY, Oct. 30 (PIA) - - The Department of Social Welfare and Development will continue to  provide  assistance to the vulnerable sectors affected by the Coronavirus Disease (COVID – 19)  even   though the implementation of the  Social Amelioration Program(SAP0  nears completion.

Director Irene Dumlao of the DSWD Social Marketing Service, in a Kapihan media forum here on Wednesday,  reported  that distribution of the second tranche of SAP is already at 90 percent complete nationwide, but the DSWD will continue with its mandate to provide assistance to the vulnerable sectors of society.

Dumlao shared that under the Bayanihan To Recover as One Act (Bayanihan 2), DSWD is mandated to provide emergency subsidy to poor and low – income families that are affected by granular lockdowns due to COVID – 19.

DSWD will also continue to bring its other services such as augmentation of food and non – food items to affected LGUs, as well as the Assistance to Individual in Crisis program, she said.

For Cordillera, DSWD – CAR Regional Director Leo Quintilla reported that they are now assessing around 700 potential family beneficiaries in areas in Baguio City where granular lockdowns were implemented, for   the Emergency Subsidy,

Quintilla clarifies that the P5, 500 Emergency Subsidy is for poor or low – income families living in areas where there is official LGU declaration of granular lockdowns.  

The Emergency Subsidy Program will also be brought to the municipalities of Tuba and Itogon in Benguet where granular lockdowns are currently on effect due to the sudden increase of COVID – 19 cases.

The Regional Task Force COVID – 19 through the Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CRDRRMC) Response Cluster headed by Quintilla also activated Oplan “TUGON” that aims to provide technical assistance and augment the LGUs’ response actions to help the affected population.

DSWD – CAR already prepositioned 1,000 Family Food Pack for the Itogon LGU and another 500 FFPs are allocated for Tuba LGU and assessment is on – going for  non – food Items needed by the affected population in the two municipalities, Quintilla added.

For other COVID – related assistance, Quintilla also shared that DSWD – CAR recently provided P5, 500 livelihood assistance each to nine persons with disability (Visually Impaired), whose regular source of income was affected by the pandemic. 

The DSWD – CAR, in partnership with LGUs and Local Social Welfare and Development Offices, is also set to implement the Supplementary Feeding Program for day care children down to the     community level. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
