DSWD assures enough food packs for typhoon 'Pepito' victims

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Oct. 21 (PIA) - - The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) region 2 has already prepared food packs to be distributed to the families that will be affected by the tropical storm "Pepito".

Marciano Dameg, disaster focal person, said they have already prepared 15, 000 boxes of food packs that are ready to be distributed in the event the Local Government Units (LGUs) will be needing augmentation of the family food packs.

The food packs consist of 10 different kinds of canned goods, noodles, coffee, sugar, milk, and six kilos of rice. 

He also said a standby fund of P4.4 million is also ready to be utilized in case more food and non-food assistance are needed in the heavily hit municipalities of the region.

"Our Municipal Action Teams were also alerted and now on standby mode. They will do monitoring of the development of this typhoon and its effect to the communities," Dameg said.

Earlier, Regional Director Harold Cabreros of the Office of the Civil Defense region 2, advised all local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (DRRMCs) to ensure preparation of all needed items for relief operations.

Cabreros also advised public to take pre-cautionary measures against the impacts associated with the said hazard, especially those in the mountain slope for possible landslide and in the low lying areas for possible flashflood. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
