DTI-E.Samar provides livelihood opportunities to Libuton ambush victims

BORONGAN CITY, Oct. 27 (PIA)—The Department of Trade and Industry provided livelihood opportunities to the victims of the Libuton Ambush in Borongan City.

According to OIC Ruthelma Samonte of the DTI-E. Samar, one wounded Carlito Baldos from Brgy. Bugas was given P5,000 worth of grocery items for selling.

Other victims from San Julian town were also given the same worth of goods, Christian Godina, Marvaliant Santos, Francis Vee Radam, and Florence Traboco. Those who died, Mary Grace Rapada and Silvina Traboco, their beneficiaries received the assistance.

This is a program of DTI called Livelihood Seeding Program - Pangkabuhayan sa PagBangon at Ginhawa (LSP-PBG) intended to support communities especially Micro enterprises so that they can resume their business after devastating fire incidents and other calamities including armed conflicts.

"DTI provides a package of assistance: provision of info materials, enterprise development training and business counseling and mentoring," said Samonte.

It will be recalled that on December 13, 2019, some NPAs ambushed a police car in Brgy. Libuton, Borongan City, where one police officer was killed with three other civilians onboard a tricycle.

Aside from the victims of the Libuton ambush, DTI also assisted another victim of a capsized pump boat when TY Ursula struck, Frederick Apilado from Brgy. Sabang, Borongan. Leomar Cidro, a fire victim of Brgy. Songco, Borongan also received the same assistance.

The beneficiaries joined the MSMEs beneficiaries from Borongan City in the distribution ceremony on October 22, 2020 at the Borongan City Plaza. (nbq)
