Additional 5,000 Makatizens to get free flu shots

CALOOCAN CITY, Nov. 9 (PIA) -- An additional 5,000 residents in Makati City are set to receive free flu shots as part of the city’s socialized health care program.

Accordingt to Mayor Abby Binay, the Makatizens beneficiaries are among those who failed to get their shots during a city-wide vaccination drive by the Makati Health Department (MHD) last August.

Binay said those who want to avail of the service need to register at the Proud Makatizen website at www.proudmakatizen.com.

“This vaccination drive aims to boost the immune system of Makatizens, especially senior citizens and other residents who are vulnerable to contracting flu. In a way, flu shots are also important in minimizing the complications of COVID-19,” the mayor said.

As of 5 November, MHD data showed 20,511 residents, including senior citizens, immunocompromised individuals and frontliners, have received their flu shots.

Those who have been given the flu vaccine also received free shots against pneumonia.

The trivalent flu shots covering three strains of influenza (influenza A or H1N1, influenza A or H3N2, and influenza B) were first administered to City Hall frontliners and essential workers from 6 July to 28 September.

Part of the city's health care program also include providing free vitamins to senior citizens and personnel who have been reporting for duty during the enhanced community quarantine. (PIA NCR)
