CHED encourages students to utilize PHL CHED Connect

Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay Nov. 14, (PIA) – One of the flexible learning platforms where students can have 24/7 access to educational material using various devices is the PHL CHED Connect and is accessible thru phlconnect.ched.gov.ph

PHL CHED Connect is a web application that contains higher education course materials in text, media and other digital assets that are useful for teaching, learning and research purposes explained Dr. Jacinta R. Tan, the OIC-Chief Education Program Specialist, Commission on Higher Education IX during the Dagyaw Open Government Virtual Town hall Meeting held recently

Dr. Tan said students can access PHL CHED Connect for free as she encouraged students to use the said platform for their benefit as this expands opportunities for interdisciplinary teaching and learning by allowing instructors to integrate and revise multiple educational resources and make learning and teachings more collaborative.

She said, as of this time, educational materials loaded in the PHL CHED Connect platform include 1,400 content; with 1,533 PDF files; and 353 videos from 18 Higher Education Institution (HEI)-contributors in the country.

Tan said the platform was launched sometime in June 2020 where the commission entered into agreement with Globe Telecom for the free access to the system  as the latter’s support to government’s commitment to flexible learning for continuity of higher education in the country .

She also announced “soon we will have SMART campus area network, this is a digital network that covers educational campus and this is intended to develop tools to enhance teaching and learning research and extension as well as to improve operational efficiency.”

In the platform, HEI-contributor will share content, be it video or PDF to CHED Regional Offices; the content will be categorized to help the commission easily tag the submitted content; once the teacher uploaded their content, the approver will review and analyze the content if it is suitable; then stakeholders may now view the content in the PHL CHEF Connect platform.

Dr. Tan said, two most pressing challenge in the course of implementation of flexible learning system are Internet connectivity (in far flung areas) and the availability of instructional and learning materials. She said the commission is continuously looking into responses to have an improved use of technology and to improve internet connectivity. (NBE/JPA/PIA-Zamboanga Sibugay)
