City general hospital to rise in Marawi

MARAWI CITY, Nov. 27 (PIA ) -- A general hospital is set to rise soon in Barangay Datu Naga inside the most affected area of the city.

This, after the Department of Health (DOH), Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM), city government and other government agencies and stakeholders broke ground the construction of 50-bed capacity Marawi City General Hospital with a project cost approximately P290 million including the manpower.

In a press briefing, Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Chief of Staff Zyril Carlos said that a “lot area that was reserved by the local government unit will allow its expansion to a 100 bed hospital in the near future.”

Carlos also shared that there is another P30 million fund being handled by DOH which will be used to equip 24 health centers that will be co-located with the 24 barangay halls in MAA. 

Mayor Majul Gandamra said the establishment of this hospital is a big help for the city since a lot of private hospitals were greatly affected and damaged  due to the siege.

The local chief executive also said the hospital  can augment the services being given by the existing government hospital, the Amai Pakpak Medical Center  (AMPC) which is now overwhelmed with patients due to coronavirus disease pandemic.

“Napakalaking tulong ang pagpagawa ng hospital [The establishment of the hospital is a big help].  It can augment the services being given by the existing government hospital, the APMC. Sa panahon po ngayon ng existing pandemic, naging sentro po sa ating APMC [During the pandemic, AMPC has been the center for accommodating patients],” said Gandamra.

Department of Health Region 10 Director Dr. Adriano Subaan said the “groundbreaking of Marawi City General Hospital symbolizes the rising up of the health sector of Marawi that was destroyed by armed conflict”.

Subaan also said that DOH also envisions reestablishing an efficient and effective citywide health system in alignment of universal health care. 

Meanwhile, TFBM Chairperson Sec. Eduardo del Rosario reiterated that the rehabilitation timeline remains on track. He also shared that the health aspect for the rehabilitation is also one of the priorities of the government.
