City gov’t procures 8,000 laptops for QC University students

CALOOCAN CITY, Nov. 7 (PIA) -- After providing Samsung tablets to public high school students in the city, the Quezon City government has procured 8,000 quality laptops for Quezon City University (QCU) students.

Dell Philippines through its local contractor Unison Computer System won the contract for 8,000 laptops for college students which will be used for their online learning system.

“We want our whole education system – from elementary to college, to be equipped as they transition to new learning modalities. These laptops will help our QCU students in attending their online classes while in the safety of their homes,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.

The University has allotted more than Php 168 million for the procurement of these laptops. Apart from the laptop units, QCU will also provide monthly internet allowance and pocket wifi to all its students.

The mayor thank Dell Philippines for extending a discount on the laptop price to support the project of the city for its students.

“When Dell Philippines learned that these laptops are for our public university students, they offered the units at a much affordable price compared to the current market value. We appreciate their support for our mission of providing technical assistance to our students,” Belmonte said.

The Quezon City University has started their classes last October 5, 2020. The laptops will soon be delivered and distributed before the end of November.

Some 250 laptops were also purchased to support the faculty members of the university. (QC PAISD/PIA-NCR)
