BAGUIO CITY, Nov. 4 (PIA) - - The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office- Cordillera (DSWD – CAR) reported a minimal effect of Super Typhoon Rolly in the Cordillera region and affirmed that response preparedness measures are now focused on the possible effect of Tropical Storm Siony.
Based on the DSWD –CAR DROMIC (Disaster Response Operation, Monitoring and Information Center) report as of 12a.m. this morning, a total of 115 families with 451 individuals in 11 barangays in Apayao (Flora, Kabugao and Calanasan) Baguio City, Benguet (Sablan), Kalinga (Balbalan) and Mountain Province (Barlig and Tadian) affected by Rolly were assisted by their respective local government units.
Affected population also included four families with 19 individuals served in three evacuation centers while another four families with 15 individuals stayed at the houses of their relatives. There were also two partially damaged houses recorded in Kabugao in Apayao.
Most of the LGU - served population were affected by flooding while others were evacuated due to risk of landslides, DSWD – CAR reported.
With Tropical Cyclone Rolly already outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, the DSWD – CAR which leads the Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s Response Cluster, assures that their preparedness actions and heightened alert status continues with focus now on Tropical Storm Siony.
Based on PAGASA Severe Weather Bulletin issued at 11 a.m. today, TS Siony maintains its strength as it continues to move slowly over the Philippine Sea east of extreme Northern Luzon.
It was estimated at 755 km East of Basco, Batanes with a maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 105km/h. Siony is also expected to intensify into a severe tropical storm and will reach its peak intensity of around 100 – 110 km/h tomorrow, and will be over or very close to Batanes and Babuyan Island between tomorrow evening and Friday morning.
“DSWD – CAR continues to monitor our severe weather bulletin and our teams in Abra, Kalinga and Apayao are on heightened alert status. We have enough relief goods to support any disaster operations,” Quintilla said.
DSWD – CAR currently has 14,884 family food packs worth around P6.94 million strategically prepositioned in the regional warehouse in Puguis La Trinidad, Benguet; satellite warehouses in Bangued, Abra; Alluna Gym in Luna, Apayao, and at the Bontoc Mountain Province Multi – purpose Hall; Ifugao Provincial Police Office; Lamut, Ifugao Trading Post, and at the Philippine Army 503rd Infantry Brigade in Kalinga.
DSWD – CAR also maintains a P3.2M standby or Quick Reaction Fund, Quintilla reported.(JDP/CCD- PIA CAR)
