TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Nov. 23 (PIA) – Farmers found an alley to market their products right at the malls after the Department of Agriculture provided an avenue for their products to be displayed at SM Center Tuguegarao Downtown (SMTD) through the Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita outlet.
DA Regional Executive Director Narciso Edillo, during the opening, said while some farmers can’t get away from using chemicals, DA assured that fruits and vegetables sold in their Kadiwa outlets are pesticide-safe.
Edillo highlighted that the health and safety of the consumers and the promotion of organic agriculture are their top most priorities with the opening of the different Kadiwa outlets regionwide
Edillo was also joined by Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Regional Dir. Milagros C. Morales and SMTD Assistant Mall Manager Rowinson Valmonte during the ceremonial awarding of the enhanced KADIWA Food Supply Chain program and Financial Grant Assistance.
The partnership of SM and DA supports the “buy local, eat local” program that will last until November 30, 2020 and is part of the observance of the National Rice Awareness Month and Organic Agriculture Month this November.
For Antonio Gayagoy, a mall goer, this is very advantageous for him because he will no longer go the wet market to buy fruits and vegetables, but he’s hopeful for a permanent outlet if only to help our local farmers. (MDCT/GVB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
