CALOOCAN CITY, Nov. 5 (PIA) -- The City Government of Makati today conducted sidewalk clearing operations ahead of the resumption order given by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Nov. 16.
The city showed its enthusiasm in clearing road and street portions of Barangays East Rembo and Pembo from illegal and potentially hazardous encroachments.
"Tuluy-tuloy ang sidewalk clearing operations ng Department of Environmental Services at Makati Action Center matapos linisin ang ilang kalye sa Brgy. East Rembo at Brgy. Pembo ngayong araw," the local government said in a Facebook post.
"Pinapaalalahanan ang lahat na maging disiplinadong # ProudMakatizens at sundin ang mga alituntunin ng kalye at kalsada sa lungsod," it added.
To recall, through DILG Memorandum Circular 2020-145, resumption of road clearing operations will vary, in different degrees, depending on the quarantine classification of a certain area.
“We may have resumed RCO 2.0 but we acknowledge the threat posed by COVID-19, hence, we still take into consideration the quarantine classification of the LGU,” DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said earlier.
Año said that full implementation of the road clearing operations will be enforced in areas under modified general community quarantine or MGCQ and the New Normal or Post Quarantine Scenario.
Partial implementation, however, will be executed by local government units (LGUs) under general community quarantine or GCQ, while in areas under MECQ and ECQ, the road clearing operations are suspended.
LGUs and barangays under a localized ECQ or MECQ may likewise suspend the implementation of RCO 2.0 regardless of their community quarantine classification.
In the said memorandum, Año said that partial implementation in areas under GCQ is limited to the actual removal or abatement of road and sidewalk obstructions that are considered dangerous to motorists and pedestrians and road clearing for the purpose of establishing bike lanes.
Full implementation in MGCQ areas and below, he said, requires LGUs to adopt all components of the road clearing operations as provided by DILG Memorandum Circular 2020-027.
