Price, supply of basic goods, prime commodities remain stable in CagVal

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Nov. 2 (PIA) - - - In its latest monitoring today, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reported that supply of basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs) are still stable in the region and within the prevailing prices amid threat brought by typhoon 'Rolly' and in anticipation of typhoon 'Siony'.

Manilyn Ponce, information officer said that DTI Provincial Offices’ Consumer Protection Division (CPD) conducted 'pre' and 'post' monitoring activities of BNPCs to ensure that there is enough supply and there is no overpricing of these products.

She said that DTI personnel who conducted the monitoring reported that prices of BNPCs remain stable and within the Suggested Retail Prices (SRPs) set by the department.

She added that supply of BNPCs in groceries and supermarkets regionwide are sufficient and can meet the demands of consumers within the next 2-4 weeks.

"There are no reported physical damages in business establishments caused by the typhoon especially in Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya provinces where Signal No. 2 was raises," said Ponce.

Ponce added that there was no panic buying, except in few areas in Quirino where a surge in the demand for candles were noted in anticipation of possible power interruptions.

The department also reported that supply and distribution of goods/products are not posing problems to retailers because Maharlika Highway and other major road networks are open to traffic.

"In anticipation of Typhoon Siony, our consumers are assured that there is enough supply of BNPCs in the next 2 to 4 weeks," Ponce added. (MDCT/PIA-2)
