ILOILO CITY, Nov. 10 (PIA) - - The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) encouraged qualified dependents of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) who are active OWWA members and whose employment was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic to avail of the educational assistance under Project Education Assistance throug Scholarship in Emergencies (Project-EASE)
OWWA 6 Regional Director Rizza Moldes said a total of 700 slots have been allocated for Western Visayas under the project and only 10 percent of the allocated slots were filled up or about 66 applications have been approved as of November 7.
She said application for the scholarship program, which is a component of OWWA Project Care, is ongoing which is open particularly to college-level dependents of OFWs who were repatriated back to the country from the declaration of the coronavirus disease 2019 outbreak on February 1, 2020.
Eligible dependents of OWWA referred to are children of married or single parent OFW or siblings of single OFW.
Successful applicants are entitled to P10,000 per year for a maximum of four years in college level.
Interested qualified applicants are required to submit their accomplished Project EASE application form and other required documents through ease@owwa.gov.ph. The form can be accessed through the OWWA website at https://ift.tt/32vekaW ease.pdf.
Moldes said the Department of Labor and Employment and Commission on Higher Education have also launched another education subsidy for dependents of OFWs in the college level in response to the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte to provide assistance to OFWs affected by the pandemic.
"Tabang OFW" or Tertiary Education Assistance for dependents of COVID-affected OFWs provides a one-time education subsidy worth P30,000.00 to qualified dependents of OFWs who were repatriated, displaced or died during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moldes said college level beneficiaries will receive this grant only for school year 2020-2021 under the program.
