School-based milk feeding continues amid the pandemic

QUEZON CITY, Nov. 14 (PIA) -- Despite the ongoing pandemic and the new learning system in the country, the Department of Education (DepEd) is pushing through with the implementation of the nationwide School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP) - Milk Feeding Component in coordination with the Department of Agriculture-National Dairy Authority (DA-NDA).

The DA-NDA said, pursuant to Republic Act No. 11037 (RA 11037) also known as the “Masustansyang Pagkain para sa Batang Pilipino Act”, select undernourished children will be provided with nutritious food products including pasteurized milk sourced from the assisted-dairy cooperatives of DA-NDA.

"Since learning is now home-based, the food products will either be delivered to households or picked up by parents in schools," it added.

At present, two schools division offices have already started launching the program.

Before the year ends, however, the DA-NDA said 120 more SDOs are expected to be covered by the program to benefit around 300,000 children nationwide. (PIA NCR)
