KALIBO, Aklan, Dec. 30 (PIA) -- The Best Practice of LGU-Kalibo under the Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation and Reintegration Program (CBDRP) had been recognized by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) along with those of 8 other municipalities and cities from other parts of the country.
This recognition, according to LGU-Kalibo, is the result of the relentless efforts of the municipality together with its departments and agencies like the Municipal Health Office (MHO), Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), the Kalibo PNP, and the DILG-Kalibo in sustaining the goal of the program, which in turn will have a significant impact on the lives of Kalibo Persons Who Used Drugs (PWUDs) who are given chances to gain their lives back.
Meanwhile, in recognizing these 9 LGUs, DILG Secretary Eduardo Ano said in a statement that these LGUs are evidences that community-level rehabilitation works as it gives drug users a chance to change for the better.
“Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the national government is committed to the rehabilitatiin of drug users in the community level as part of its anti-illegal drugs program,” Secretary Año said.
These LGUs with best community rehabilitation practices, according to him, are the Municipality of Magallanes, Cavite; Municipality of Bacnotan, La Union; City of Lucena, Quezon, Municipality of Kalibo, Aklan; City of Ormoc, Leyte; Pasig City; Davao Oriental; Municipality of Claver, Surigao Del Norte; and Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.
Año revealed that among the 36 entries from various LGUs nationwide, the DILG, through the Philippine Anti-Illegal Drugs Strategy Project Management Office, selected 9 best practices “that demonstrate ideal CBDRP implementation."
Entries of the LGUs were screened on the existence of a CBDRP; at least 80% of those enrolled graduate from the program; and if the LGU introduced “safe interventions” during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The 9 LGUs with remarkable CBDRP practices were recognized in a symposium on CBDRP best practices titled “Talakayang Rehab: Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation and Reintegration Best Practices."
The symposium was conducted via the Zoom platform and was viewed live on the DILG’s official social media page. (JSC/VGV/PIA6 Aklan)
