DOH-10: Public key to defeating COVID-19

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Dec. 1 (PIA) – “Our challenge to the public is simple: whatever community quarantine measures we are in, it is in the hands of the public whether to get infected with COVID-19 or not," according to Dr. Ian Christian Gonzales, head of the non-communicable disease cluster of the Department of Health (DOH)-10 during the "Talakayan sa PIA COVID-19 series."

As the economy of the region slowly opens up and that the age bracket of those who are allowed to go out and travel has been relaxed, it is still important to be careful and follow the health protocols.

Further, the national government is constantly monitoring to avoid any possible re-spreading of the virus in the country to strike a balance between the economy and health in this time of pandemic.

“Even though we ease up, we are still very cognizant of the possible changes in our situation. The national government is continuously monitoring the different regions and is assessing if there are needs to increase or decrease, to have much stricter or more relaxed community quarantine measures depending on certain indicators. It is a big challenge for all of us on how to balance [health and economy],” Gonzales said.

With he opening of the economy, preventive measures are in place  both in work and business places, making sure that the economy circulating and, at the same time, the health of the public is taken care of.

The public is reminded that the fight against COVID-19 is not a sprint; it is a marathon. That is why it is important to phase ourselves since it is still a long way to go to defeat this pandemic.

"Everybody is needed to be proactive and follow the minimum health protocols. It will never be the government alone that can beat this unseen enemy but it is the general public who holds the key to defeating this pandemic," Dr. Gonzales shared. (JAKA/PIA10)
