Health chief inspects 2 govt hospital’s preparation in responding to firecracker injuries

CALOOCAN CITY, Dec. 22 (PIA) -- Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III on Friday, visited Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center and Tondo Medical Center in Manila to ensure the preparedness of the two government hospitals in responding to firecracker-related injuries and other emergency cases during the holiday season.

During his inspection, Duque sees to it that medical equipment, instruments and medical and first aid supplies are ready in the hospitals for any eventuality that may be caused by the use of firecrackers and pyrotechnics though there is an existing ban on the use of said items.

The Department of Health is also promoting its ‘Iwas Pautok’ campaign that encourages the public to use alternative and safe means of noisemakers in celebration of the holidays.

Duque’s inspection at the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center also paved the way for the Department of Health – Metro Manila Center for Health Development, thru Dr. Corazon I. Flores, OIC-Director IV, to hand-in the COVID-19 Response Service Award to the hospital for the invaluable and unrelenting efforts of its medical frontline health workers in providing quality care for patients afflicted with COVID-19.  Dr. Emmanuel F. Montano, Jr., Medical Center Chief II humbly accepts the recognition.

After the inspection at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center, the Health Secretary, together with Assistant Secretary Elmer G. Punzalan and the DOH team proceeded to Tondo Medical Center and does a similar inspection.  (PIA-NCR)
