Number of workers in CV getting DOLE assistance up

CEBU CITY, Dec. 4 (PIA) -- As the Department of Labor and Employment Region 7 (DOLE-7) continues evaluating and processing applications online under the Bayanihan 2, the number of workers that availed the department’s financial assistance went up.

Since Nov. 19 to 23, 2020, DOLE-7 recorded 2,631 more workers receiving P5,000 each under the COVID-19 Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP) Bayanihan 2.

DOLE-7 recorded 2,500 workers benefiting from the CAMP on Nov. 19, 2020, a few days after the department started evaluating CAMP applications.

With the rising number of applications being evaluated and processed, the additional funds that have been shelled out for CAMP amounted to P25,757,620 as of Nov. 23, from P12,550,000 on Nov. 19, 2020.

According to DOLE-7 Regional Director Salome Siaton, the amount disbursed on Nov. 23 covers the financial assistance for 5,131 workers, including the money remittance service charge of P102,620.

“We’ve noticed a significant increase in the number of workers benefiting the CAMP. This indicates that people are aware of DOLE’s programs. They have become more vigilant in doing their online applications early as we will be treating all applications on a first-come first-served basis,” said DOLE-7 Regional Director Salome Siaton.

More workers are also expected to get the CAMP financial aid once the applications from the tourism sector are evaluated and processed.

Under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced workers (TUPAD), as of Nov. 23, DOLE has tallied 3,595 informal sector workers benefiting P7,333,800 as payment for their wages.

Beneficiaries of CAMP and TUPAD will claim their assistance at the DOLE’s partner money remittance centers. (jmse/PIA-7/DOLE-7)
