LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Dec 30 (PIA) - The province’s capital town has vowed to strengthen programs and projects to put an end to violence against woman and children (VAWC).
Vice-Mayor Judy Vargas -Quiocho, chairperson of the technical working group to end VAWC in Lingayen town, said programs for this vulnerable sector is a year-round commitment fully supported by MayorLeopoldo Bataoil.
Vargas-Quicho said Help Desks solely for VAWC concerns have been distributed to the 32 barangays of the town.
“Issues on women are senstitive. Kapag may problema at pumunta ka sa barangay, alam mo kung sino ang pupuntahan, doon sa VAWC desk na ang mga officers ay nag-undergo ng mga trainings,” the vice-mayor said who also chairs the Local Council of Women-Pangasinan chapter.
Hygiene kits, tape recorders, and basic women empowerment seminar were given to the sector and the Kabalikat Patrol, in partnership with the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office, provided 32 police hotline sim cards that women can call or text for help.
Highlight of the VAWC campaign is a film showing of a women empowerment movie titled ‘EBAI-Babae Ka, Hindi Babae Lang’.
Pangasinense Film Director Harvie Aquino said the film depicts three generations which stars a teenager, a battered wife, and a senior citizen and how they rose up against abuses and violence.
“Pinapakita dito ang iba’t-ibang klase ng pang-aabuso sa kababaihan ngunit hindi dapat magtapos duon kundi kailangang lumaban at ipakita ang kakayahan,” Aquino said.
EBAI is coined from the word EBA for woman and BAI which is Pangasinan term for an old woman. (JCR/JPD/VHS, PIA Pangasinan)
