PhilSys registration now at 81% of completion in Pangasinan

CALASIAO, Pangasinan, Dec. 27 (PIA) - The Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) is now at 81 percent of completion for the first step in its registration process in Pangasinan.

Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in the Ilocos Regional Director Shiela De Guzman said the PhilSys aims to establish a single national identification system for all citizens and resident aliens of the Republic of the Philippines.

“There are 32 priority provinces this year for the PhilSys registration. In Region I, Pangasinan, La Union and Ilocos Sur are included,” De Guzman said during the media forum held at the Monarch Hotel here.

Pangasinan Chief Statistical Specialist Edgar Norberte said they targeted  the low-income household heads in the province for the first step.

“Only 41 out of the 48 towns and cities of Pangasinan were included in the priority this year. The towns of Agno, Anda, Burgos, Sual, Bautista, Sto. Tomas, and Villasis towns were not included probably due to low poverty incidence rate,” he explained.

Camille Carla Beltran, officer-in-charge of the Civil Registration and Administrative Services Division of PSA Ilocos regional office, said the agency will soon implement Step 2 which will be the actual PhilSys registration.

"This will include the validation of demographic information and capture of fingerprint, iris, and face images at PhilSys registration centers which are based at the local government units," Beltran added.

The Landbank of the Philippines (LBP), a PhilSys partner, said they target to open accounts for unbanked families, according to LBP first vice president Ma. Belma Turla.

Meanwhile, Regional Director De Guzman also bared that the Census of Population and Housing (CPH 2020) has been finished and results of which will be announced by the President once finalized. (JCR/AMB/VHS/PIA Pangasinan)
