ISABELA CITY, Basilan, Dec 28 (PIA) – A total of 213 persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Isabela City and 180 senior citizens received livelihood cash assistance from the local government unit before Christmas.

A check amounting to P5,000 livelihood assistance for each PWD was turned-over to the 213 PWDs from the 45 barangays in the city. This was provided to help them to start their individual small businesses.

Mayor Sitti Djalia Hataman in her message during the turn-over, emphasized the value of the assistance from the city government and reminded the beneficiaries to be smart in spending the given aid to be able to start small investments or businesses that will possibly improve their current living conditions.

Meanwhile, on December 18, a total of 180 senior citizens also received P10,000 livelihood assistance each from the LGU.

CSWDO Emma Gurrea said that four senior citizens per barangay were chosen by their respective association to receive the said assistance that will augment and help them in their individual small businesses.

The beneficiaries were very grateful to the city government for providing them this kind of aid especially now that we are still affected by the COVID19 pandemic.

Based on the City Information Office report, the said livelihood assistance given to both PWDs and senior citizens were apportioned from the one percent (1%) special appropriation for vulnerable sectors of the City Government for fiscal year 2020 in the amount of 1,065,000 pesos.
