CABARROGUIS, Quirino, Dec. 25 (PIA)— This province was recently named  14th Most Competitive province nationwide in 2020 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) Survey, an annual ranking of Philippine cities and municipalities developed by the National Competitiveness Council and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)  through the Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs).

Quirino is the only province among  the 10 local government units which include two  cities, and seven municipalities in Region 2 that grabbed top spots in the recently concluded  CMCI survey that was participated in by 1,518 LGUs all over the Philippines.

Under the municipal level,  Saguday was named 14th Overall Most Competitive LGU under the 5th-6th Class Category,  5th Most Competitive LGU under Government Efficiency Pillar and 14th Most Competitive LGU under Resilience Pillar

Also, Cabarroguis was  named 16th Overall Most Competitive LGU under the 3rd-4th Class Category

In the Facebook post of DTI Region 2, it was stated that the CMCI  is a tool used to measure LGUs’ performance on four  pillars: Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Infrastructure and Resiliency.

The awarding of the Most Competitive LGUs was conducted virtually during the 8th Regional Competitiveness Summit on 17 December 2020.

In her message, DTI Competitiveness and Innovation Group Undersecretary Rafaelita M. Aldaba said although the primary objective of the 8th Regional Competitiveness Summit is to award and recognize the most competitive cities, municipalities and provinces, the CMCI provides so much more than just trophies and awards.

“The CMCI must not only serve as a seal of honor and affirmation for creating and developing a competitive local economy. It also aspires to encourage LGUs to continually strive to be better,” the USEC Aldaba said. (MDCT/TCB/PIA 2-Quirino)
