PASIG CITY, Dec. 21 (PIA) -- The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-National Capital Region (TESDA-NCR) recently held its "Harvest Day" for the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Officers Village Association, Inc. (AFPPVAI) trainees on urban farming.

TESDA Director General, Secretary Isidro S. LapeƱa led the closing ceremonies for the eight batches of trainees under the TESDA-AFPOVAI Urban Farming Training Program, which was initiated by the TESDA Secretary himself.

During the closing ceremonies, representatives from each phase participated in the program and presented their harvests, and also shared their meaningful experiences during and after the training.

According to TESDA-NCR, 78 graduates of this program are residents of AFPOVAI in Taguig City. Most of the trainees are former generals with their families who have undergone eight-hour training, both online and hands-on. TESDA-NCR added that six phases in the AFPOVAI village and 63 households benefited the program.

The TESDA-AFPOVAI Urban Farming Project started last May when the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) was implemented. Its initial goal is to develop vacant lots in AFPOVAI, and at the same time, conduct a community-based training program provided by TESDA to its residents with TESDA Women Center as the training provider.

Meanwhile, AFPOVAI President Col. Mapagtapat Ongchangco requested for another run of said training to accommodate other participants. (PIA-NCR)
