Aurora mayor recognizes BION's role to spread info against COVID-19

MAHAYAG, Zamboanga del Sur, Jan 4 (PIA) –The Barangay Information Officers ’Network (BION) that the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and the provincial government have established will greatly assist in delivering accurate information to the farthest barangays in the town.

Mayor Boen Dorotheo Cabahug disclose this during the recent BION municipal launching and orientation held at the municipal hall in the town.

Cabahug said that through the communication network called BION, accurate information can be sent to 44 barangays in Aurora town.

Cabahug added that at this time we are experiencing the infectious and deadly Covid-19 pandemic, it is very important to convey to the people the true and accurate information.

“In our current terrifying, contagious and deadly Covid-19 pandemic, it is imperative that accurate information be communicated to the public. Most of us do not have accurate information on what exactly this virus is that is spreading not only in our town, province, and country but all over the world,” Cabahug said.

He said that since the pandemic began in March this year, the primary medium of communication of the local government to the people is ‘Radyo Kaugmaran,’ the radio station owned by the LGU.

He added that ‘Radyo Kaugmaran’ is used by the LGU to send information to the people so that they can know and understand the actions taken by the LGU and the national government to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The local chief executive said that with the current establishment of BION, it will be easier for the local government to provide accurate information about Covid-19 to the barangays and so that no Auroranhon's will be infected with the virus until there is a vaccine coming here in the country.

The mayor also thanked the active support of the barangay officials in demonstrating perfect attendance and sincere commitment to serve their respective barangays as full-pledged BION members.

"Let us continue to be vigilant and prayerful at all times against Covid-19 virus so that our municipality can be healthy. I believe that if people are healthy, our town will also be healthy and our people will prosper and live happily ever after," the mayor said. (RVC/GCC/PIA9-Zamboanga del Sur)
