ILOILO CITY, Jan. 5 (PIA) - - The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 6 has begun processing the burial assistance to families of nine casualties in Tapaz, Capiz during the police operations conducted in Tapaz, Capiz and Calinog, Iloilo on December 30, 2020.
In a press conference called by the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC) 6, January 4, at Camp Delgado, Iloilo City, DSWD 6 Assistant Regional Director for Operations Delia Bagolcol said affected families will receive P25,000 each burial assistance.
She said additional funds will be provided to those who need to transfer the cadaver of their loved ones to another place.
As reported by Police Regional Office 6 Deputy Regional Director for Operations PCol. Ross Alvarado during the press conference, the operation to implement the 28 search warrants in the said areas resulted in the deaths of nine individuals and the arrest of 16 other people. Three more people are still at large.
The search warrants, which were issued on December 22, 2020, were applied by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) based on the information from civilians in the area on the presence of personalities with high-powered firearms. The CIDG, Police Regional Office 6, with the assistance of the Philippine Army, simultaneously served the search warrants.
Those who died during the operation in Tapaz, Capiz include Roy Giganto, Reynaldo Katipunan and Mario Aguirre, all of Brgy. Lahug; Rolando Caspillo and Maurito Diaz, Sr. of Brgy. Tacayan; Eliseo Gayas, Jr. of Brgy. Aglinab; Artilito Katipunan of Brgy. Acuña; Jomar Vidal of Brgy. Daan Sur; Garson Catamin and Rolando Diaz of Nayawan.
Due to the incident, around 300 persons temporarily stayed at the Tapaz Civic Center. However, according to latest report less than 30 persons have remained at the evacuation center, as of January 3.
Bagolcol further reported that the DSWD Quick Response Team in partnership with the local Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office has conducted a psychosocial first aid to attend to the needs of affected children and women on January 2.
Some 70 sleeping kits amounting to P90,648.00 were also provided to 66 families, and toys for children amounting to P8,820.00.
She said there are also food packs and hygiene kits on standby as per request of the local government unit of Tapaz.
The Philippine National Police urged people in the affected villages to go back to their homes as it assured them of their safety. (JSC/laf/PIA6 Iloilo)
