Fire razes Vizcaya town market stalls

DUPAX DEL NORTE, Nueva Vizcaya, January 4 (PIA) - A fire of unknown origin burned at least five stalls of the public market in this town recently.

The fire struck at 7:30 pm of January 1 and damaged the stalls which sells agricultural and pharmacy and other variety products.

Lopito Protacio, 47, a villager near the public market said the fire suddenly happened at the stall situated at the corner of the street in barangay Malasin and burned the other adjacent stalls.

Louie Aguada, market inspector, said the market stalls have been regularly monitored and inspected by the Bureau of Fire Protection(BFP) and LGU personnel to ensure their safety and security from possible occurence of fire.

"Our stalls were regularly inspected by the BFP and our LGU workers as part of the fire prevention campaign of the national and local governments," he said.

Aguada said a P25 million - worth public market building is also being constructed to replace the old market structures of the municipality.

The BFP is conducting an investigation on the fire incident. (ALM/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
