ILIGAN CITY, Jan. 30 (PIA) - The local government of Iligan City, together with the Department of Health (DOH) in Northern Mindanao commenced the coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) vaccine rollout in the city Friday, Jan. 29 to intensify information drive and orient 3,000 healthcare workers for successful execution of the COVID-19 immunization.
During the said orientation, the LGU through the City Health Office – Emergency Operation Center (CHO-EOC) for COVID-19 huddled healthcare workers both from the public and private sectors who will act as major implementers when planned vaccination is carried out.
“You are the first participants of this rollout training because once muabot ang vaccine, kita ang manpower,” EOC Cluster Manager Dr. Belinda Lim said during the orientation.

Aside from the city health frontliners, agencies including the Department of Education (DepEd), uniformed personnel, other medical workers from private and government hospitals, barangay health workers and media personnel will invited next to the rollout to let them understand what the government is pushing.
The city government also plans to initiate vaccination orientation to the public to educate and instill awareness on the essence of the immunization, as well as urge them to get vaccinated to realize the aim of reducing deaths and disease burden among people vulnerable to the infectious disease.
Likewise, the CHO-EOC disclosed that the local government’s vaccination plan is strictly in line with the national government’s program.
Part of the immunization program is forming vaccination teams comprising of five medical personnel, one of which is a medical doctor.
In addition to the plan is coming up with the listed target population or priority groups to be immunized according to the order of prioritization among of which are frontline health workers, indigent senior citizens, remaining senior citizens, remaining indigent population, and uniformed personnel such as the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). This will then be followed by the teachers and school health workers both in public and private institutions, all government workers both in local and national government, essential workers in agriculture, food industry, transportation and tourism, sociodemographic groups at significantly higher risk other than the senior citizens and indigent population such as persons with disability (PWDs) and residents in high-density areas, overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), other remaining workforce, and students.
With the conducted rollout, participants are seen to be positive and open to be channels for the government’s vaccination efforts.
“Isip usa pud ka health advocate, ato gyung gitinunghaan nga tanan mag-apil gyud sa vaccination program na ginapahigayon sa tibook Pilipinas,” cited Rod Bryan Glova, Nurse II from the DepEd.
[As one of the health advocates also, we are striving that everyone will really participate in the vaccination program which is implemented in the whole Philippines.]
Further, Lim bared that the LGU is following a timeline wherein healthcare workers are tasked to give their initial consent to get vaccinated on February 15 and vaccination posts in the city will be visible by March 31. (CRG/ PIA-ICIC)
