DPWH E. Samar completes Jipapad River Control project worth P 16-M

BORONGAN CITY, Feb. 8 (PIA) – The Department of Public Works and Highways Eastern Samar District Engineering Office completed the construction of a River Control project in Jipapad town worth P 16.051-M.

The project spans 88.00 meters long.

District Engineer Manolo Rojas said that the project serves as scour protection and to prevent flooding in the area.

“The River Control project is important to protect lives and properties of the people in the area,” said Rojas when interviewed before his transfer.

Hermenia Penorcio one of the residents of flood-prone Jipapad town is thankful for the project. She was then scared when the flood current swept her kitchen away.

She is thankful that the government provided the project to spare them from the effects of flooding.

Another resident, Liezel Pecayora of Baarngay 2 thanked the DPWH for the project that will protect her property from erosion.

Mayor Benjamin Ver shared the good results of the River Control project.

“The flood current is weakened by the structure and our fear of further destruction has been abated,” Ver said.

With the River Control project in place, the Jipapad LGU has now reasons for improvement of their municipality as they now have a concrete barrier for soil erosion.

Jipapad town is surrounded by a river that gets nasty during the ber months inundating the farming community. (nbq/ with reports from DPWH ESDEO)
