CALOOCAN CITY, Feb. 8 (PIA) -- The Navotas City Government has planed to address low vaccine confidence with the COVID-19 vaccine, an official said over the weekend.
Navotas Representative John Rey Tiangco conveyed the city's plan to Health Secretary Francisco Duque III and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, among other members of the COVID-19 Vaccine Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (CODE) Team who visited the Navotas Polytechnic College to inspect the city's cold room and vaccination center.
Tiangco said they hope to boost public confidence in the coronavirus vaccine to encourage more residents to get vaccinated and speed up the city's return to normalcy.
"The city government has invited health experts to educate NavoteƱos about COVID-19 vaccines. We hope that as we correct misconceptions, we will also be able to allay their fears and eventually convince them to get vaccinated," he said.
The city would also be forming a task force that will promote vaccine confidence and to explain that the COVID-19 vaccine will be the next best thing that Filipinos could possibly have to revert to normalcy.
A recent Social Weather Stations survey showed that only 32 percent of Filipinos would "definitely" want to be vaccinated against COVID-19, while another 34 percent would "probably" have themselves immunized.
To recall, vaccine fears fanned by the Dengvaxia incident had pulled down immunization rates in the country, even for the proven vaccines.
This, however, led to outbreaks of some diseases previously controlled through inoculation.
Tiangco said the local government hopes to convince more people to get vaccinated against the coronavirus disease. (PIA NCR)
