NV PLGU: More irrigation systems for farmers

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Feb. 26 (PIA) - The provincial government here continue to build irrigation systems to boost the production of farmers in the province.

Engr. Virgilio Dela Cruz, provincial agriculturist said based on their Agri-Infra Status of Accomplishments by the end of last year, they were able to complete 23 out of the 43 targeted Communal Irrigation Systems (CIS) and 19 of the 37 targeted Farm-to- Market Roads(FMRs).

“These projects were funded through the 20 percent 2020 Development Fund as major infrastructure projects for our farmers,” he said.

Dela Cruz also said one CIS and another FMR are also being built under the Balik Sagip Patubig Program (BSPP) funded through the 2019 Supplemental Budget of the provincial government.

He added that 175 farmers were also given technical assistance on corn production, covering a total land area of 192.31 hectares from their target of 150 hectares.

Dela Cruz said due to COVID-19 pandemic, only 5 trainings on technology package and good agricultural practices were offered among farmers which were funded by the local government unit of Dupax del Norte.

“A training on Sustainable Corn Production in Sloping Areas (SCOPSA) was also conducted in barangay Ampakleng in Diadi. Other trainings were cancelled due to lockdown in nearby areas,” he said.

The Provincial Agriculture Office (PAgRo) also conducted 2 field days and 4 technology demonstrations on the effects of Bio-N, Vital N and eNabler on corn production during the wet and dry seasons, achieving its targets in barangay Bonfal Proper in Bayombong, Baresbes in Quezon and Bintawan Sur in Villaverde town.

“Provision of hybrid corn seeds and Urea fertilizers were fully accomplished. These were distributed to farmers in Bayombong, Solano, Kasibu, Bambang, Dupax del Norte, Diadi, Quezon and Bagabag. Some were also given to walk-in clients,” Dela Cruz said. (MDCT/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
