DAVAO CITY, Feb. 26 (PIA)- Colorful, creative, diverse, spectacular
These words will describe the specially created online events that will mark the first-ever digital celebration of the 84th Araw ng Dabaw which will be held March 1-3.
The specially created online shows will showcase the best of Davao City in the fields of music and dance, arts, food and fashion.
According to City Tourism Operations Office chief Generose Tecson, this year’s Araw ng Dabaw celebrations will aim to evoke pride and appreciation of Davao City’s creativity and resiliency amidst the pandemic.
“The virtual Araw ng Dabaw provides us a message that nothing can stop us to be one, to be united and move forward, together. We just have to look for the means and ways how,” Tecson said.
Among the online events to watch out for include:
The OPENING CEREMONY will premiere at 8:00 p.m. on March 1. The virtual opening show will be graced by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio. Various local musical and dance artists will perform poignant songs and show-stopping dance numbers.
This is the first time Davao City will be celebrating the founding anniversary on March 1 which is the exact date when the Commonwealth Act 51 (Law creating the City of Davao) took effect.
And speaking of history, the opening ceremony will be the formal premiere of DAVAO CITY HISTORY, an animated video that tells Davao City’s rich and unique past.
Also one of the highlights in the opening will be the launching of the 2021 Araw Ng Dabaw Theme Song.
The Opening Ceremony will be followed by the Globe Dabawenyo Tiktok Challenge.
The following day on March 2, food lovers will be in a for a treat as TILAW DABAW will premiere at 10:00 a.m. Tilaw Dabaw is an online show which spotlights the diverse array of Davao City’s cuisine from homegrown and classic restaurants’ to new dining concepts, trendy food spots to farm-to-table destinations and the Halal foods establishments present in Davao.
Well-known Dabawenyo personalities will give you a walking tour of these restaurants and establishments and viewers will get to meet the people behind these kitchens.
At the same day on 5:00 p.m. HUGYAW DABAW will premiere. The online event will present thru recorded performances several talented and award-winning Dabawenyos who shone in the field of music and have brought pride to the city after winning in prestigious national and international competitions.
Following Hugyaw Dabaw at around 7:00 p.m. will be an online Pahalipay concert sponsored by Globe Telecom.
On the culminating day on March 3 at 10:00 a.m. the city’s creative artistic landscape will be the focus on OBRA DABAW. The show will bring audiences to the homes, workshops, galleries of these celebrated local artists, who will also proudly show off their masterpieces.
The much-anticipated ISTILO DABAW will premiere on the same day (March 3) at 5:00 p.m. The program will highlight award-winning fashion designers who pull inspiration from the local traditions and cultural heritage of Davao.
Istilo Dabaw showcases the aesthetic facets often overlooked by most. Fashion is visual, wearable art. It adds allure, grace and even intensity to one’s everyday existence. The streets of Davao City provide a fabulous runway for fashionistas of the city.
On the evening will be an online Pahalipay Concert sponsored by Smart.
