Antique remains peaceful, crime incidents decline

SAN JOSE, Antique, March 30 (PIA) - -The Province of Antique remained peaceful with the decline in the number of crime incidents as reported
by the peacekeeping authorities..

Police Major Frankie A. Gatila, Officer in Charge of the Police Operations Management Unit- Antique Police Provincial Office, reported during the Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting here, the decline of crime incidents in first quarter of 2021 compared to the same period last year.

Crime incidents in 2020 summed up to 194 for the period January-February which is lower by 14.95 percent compared to the 65 recorded cases  during the same period this year.

The PNP, however, reported an increase in cases of reckless imprudence resulting in injuries and damage to properties due to an increase in cases of road accidents involving motor vehicles.

In line with this, Vice Governor Edgar Denosta raised the proposal of the Provincial Board of Antique to pass an ordinance to ensure road safety among motorists and commuters with the present expansion of highways.

On illegal drugs, both Antique PPO and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) reported their intensified campaign against illegal drugs.

PDEA, however, reported concerns on the compliance by the municipalities to the establishment of Balay Silangan.  Of 18 towns, only six reported its compliance.

On part of the Philippine Army, 1Lt Karl Maverick G. Peniero said that army operations are continuing especially in areas where there are sightings of the communist terrorist groups.

 Provincial Consultant on Peace and Order and Public Safety Margie L Gadian reminded the partner agencies involved in the implementation of Enhanced Community Integration Program to fast track the processing of documentary requirements so that the benefits of the former rebels,
who have decided to return to the folds of the law, will be given to them already.

Since 2020, Antique has so far 30 former rebels who applied for government support as they return to their communities.

Also discussed during the meeting were the accomplishments of Task Force ELCAC and the guidance of the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19.

DILG Provincial Director Cherryl P. Tacda, who led the secretariat of the PPOC, lauded the support of the provincial government to the PPOC
as well as the participation of other agencies.

During the meeting, Tacda handed over the 2019 National Anti-Drug Abuse Council Performance Award Plaque of Recognition to the Provincial Government  as a recognition of the province's performance in complementing the national government's anti-illegal drug campaign and in garnering 93 functionality points during the conduct of the audit.
