ZAMBOANGA CITY, March 29 (PIA) – Half of the eight (8) bridges for construction by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along Alicia-Malangas Road Province in Province of Zamboanga Sibugay are completed.
DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that these bridges are part of the 23.730 kilometers PR-06 Alicia - Malangas Road Project traversing 15 barangays of the Municipalities of Alicia and Malangas under the Asian Development Bank-assisted Improving Growth Corridors in Mindanao Road Sector Project (IGCMRSP) implemented by DPWH UPMO Roads Management Cluster 2 (UPMO-RMC 2). Overall progress for this package costing ₱1.318 Billion is at 48.58 percent and is targeted for full completion by April 2022.
In his report to Secretary Villar, DPWH Undersecretary for Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations Emil K. Sadain said that the superstructure and sub structure of the 40.94 lineal meter (lm) Logpond Bridge, 35.94 lm Tigabon Bridge, 30.94 lm Ilisan Bridge and 40.94 lm Bella Bridge are all completed while respective embankment of bridge approaches are on-going or in advance stages of completion.
Secretary Villar lauded the effective action of DPWH-UPMO by ordering the contractors to focus more on bridge, stone masonry, lined ditch and other slope protection structures as embankment operation activities in the past were hampered by the inclement weather condition in the project area.
Undersecretary Sadain together with UPMO RMC 2 Project Director Sharif Madsmo H. Hasim and Project Manager Emmanuel Supe monitored through actual site inspection on March 25, 2021 that four (4) other bridges namely 25.94 lm Payag Bridge, 60.94 lm Lipacan Bridge, 25.94 lm Sinusayan Bridge, and 40.94 lm Lapirawan Bridge are also underway in its on sub-structure works.
On paving of road towards a designed carriageway width for a national secondary road of 6.70 meter with shoulder width of 1.5 meters on both sides, about 20.33 kilometer half-lane or 10.17 kilometer double lane of 28 centimeter (cm) portland concrete cement pavement were already accomplished as well as 7.82 km half lane of 15 cm thickness of paved shoulder completed.
With the onset of dry season, 14.70 km full width were already laid with subbase materials by contractors China-Geo Engineering Corporation/ESR Construction and Development Corporation with the DPWH UPMO Road Right of Way Taskforce continuously working out the necessary right of way requirements in coordination with the project stakeholders.
The P25.257 Billion IGCMRSP funded with a loan amounting P19.080 Billion by the Asian Development Bank and P6.117 Billion to be funded by the Government of the Philippines,
is composed of seven (7) road subprojects with a total gross length of 230.22 kilometers and Guicam Bridge with a length of 540.8 lineal meters all located in Zamboanga Peninsula and three (3) bridges with a total gross length of 1,790.66 lineal meter located in Tawi-Tawi Province.
The project supports the economic growth and development in Western Mindanao by reducing travel time, providing safe and efficient travel, and improve peace and order situation through road network development. (RVC/DIS/PIA9-Zamboanga City, DPWH Press Release)
