Biliran Provincial Council for Women’s Welfare leads Women’s Month celebration

NAVAL, Biliran, March 4 (PIA) --   The Biliran Provincial Council for Women’s Welfare, Inc. (PCWWI) led the kick-off activity  for the month-long Women’s Month celebration in March.

Women employees from the different government agencies and women leaders from non-government organizations joined the provincewide motorcade on March 1.

The participants of the motorcade which took the Almeria-Kawayan-Culaba-Caibiran-Cabucgayan-Biliran route was welcomed by chanting women and as well as  men who support the advocacy of women in the highways of every barangay  along the route.

An additional activity in celebration to Women’s Month is a Zumba  set on March 8, International Women’s Day, for every municipal women federation  to avoid clustering of overcrowded participants.

With the pandemic restrictions, particulary the observance of social distancing,  PCCWI withheld the regular annual provincial Women’s Congress for two years now.

The organization scheduled the last week of March for the mini-congresses in every municipality to be participated by barangay federation members to tackle important issues on women’s rights, online sexual exploitation of children (OSEC), and most importantly  the dissemination of the national government’s  COVID-19 vaccination program.

Dr. Cecil Espina, PCWWI president,  stressed the importance of informing women the advantages and benefits of taking the COVID-19  vaccine to shield themselves and their families from  severe  COVID-19  infection and transmission to other family members and the community.

Despite the pandemic and limitations of face to face contacts, PCWWI officials continuously reach out to members in the barangays to empower them as productive citizens along with men.   (nbq/mlt/PIA8 Biliran)
