The distribution of assistance was led by Bing Juaneza, staff of Senator Bong Go’s office, and was assisted by Barangay Kagawads Rufina Villaroman and Marilou Sacapano, who represented Barangay Balabag Punong Barangay Jason Talapian.

Juaneza told the recipients that the assistance is President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Bong Go’s way of telling them that they are not forgotten.

“Wala gid kamo nakalimtan sang Presidente (You have not been forgotten by the President),” Juaneza told to the fire victims.

As Senator Bong Go’s assistance, the fire victims received P2,000 cash, foodpacks, face masks, Jollibee meals, and vitamins.

Eight items consisting of two tablets, two pairs of shoes, two bicycles, and two watches were also raffled off to the recipients.  These items also came from Senator Bong Go.

In the same activity, the DSWD, through Social Welfare and Development Team Leader Lluva Gallofin, distributed P5,000.00 cash to each of the fire victims under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.

Divina Malban, one of the fire victims, said she will use the financial assistance she received from Senator Bong Go and the DSWD to reconstruct her house and as capital for a small business to earn extra income.

The other fire victims, namely, Rasel Sastre, Jeron Modragon, Joerlyn Gusi, Jeruld Modragon, Jenny Rose Sastre, Rommel Sastre, and Rigel Sastre, intimated similar plans after receiving the assistance.

Their plight as fire victims in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and with lesser opportunities to earn income due to the closure of most establishments in the island reached Senator Bong Go through a letter of appeal sent by Barangay Kagawad Marilou Sacapano.

Meanwhile, one other Boracaynon who was aided by Senator Bong during the activity was Gina Magbanua, whose mother died due to lingering illness.

Seeking help from the barangay, she instead received seven extra food packs containing rice, canned goods and noodles, and P1,000.00 financial help from Senator Bong Go. (JSC/VGV/PIA6 Aklan)
