SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Mar.14 (PIA) - - All medical personnel of the Naval Forces Northern Luzon (NFNL), who received the first dose of the Sinovac anti-COVID-19 vaccine have not felt any adverse effect after the inoculation, according to Navy Lieutenant Jaypee B. Abuan.
Abuan, the spokesperson of the NFNL based in Poro Point, this city, said that a total of 21 medical personnel of the NFNL’s Naval Station Ernesto Ogbinar (NSEO) Medical Dispensary were vaccinated during the successful roll-out of the Sinovac in their headquarters on March 11, 2021.
“Our medical personnel, who first received the COVID–19 vaccine are on-duty frontliners in the mitigation of the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in Northern Luzon,” said Abuan.
He said that the NFNL through the NSEO Medical Dispensary in partnership with the Department of Health – Center for Health Development (DOH – CHD) Region 1 and the La Union Provincial Health Office conducted the successful vaccination of its military health personnel with the COVID-19 vaccine.
“The symbolic inoculation of the first dose of the vaccine was received by Major Juland Sangoy, the commanding officer of NSEO Medical Dispensary and was administered by Dr. Dan William Y Dacanay, the medical specialist of the La Union Provincial Health Office,” Abuan said.
Commodore Caesar Bernard N. Valencia, the commander of NFNL, and Dr. Valeriano Jesus V. Lopez, the DOH Region 1 director, graced the ceremonial vaccination.
In his message, Commodore Valencia cited the importance of having inoculated with an COVID-19 vaccine to ensure health safety in the new normal situation amid the pandemic.
“This vaccine will help us a lot to boost our immune system and prevent us from being infected but, we should continue practicing minimum health protocols like social distancing, wearing of face mask/face shields, and frequent handwashing,” said Valencia.
For his part, Dr. Lopez said the continuing inoculation of the COVAX to all medical health worker-frontliners in Region 1 is the top priority to make sure of their protection while they are on-duty in the hospitals or clinics in the region.
As of March 8, 2021, the DOH-CHD Region 1 had already received from the national government a total of 29,600 doses of the Sinovac vaccine and 10,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine. The distribution of these vaccines to the different hospitals in the region is on-going. (JCR/FGL, PIA 1)
