Tangub rolls out COVID-19 vaccination to health workers

TANGUB CITY, Misamis Occidental, Mar. 11 (PIA)—Tangub City started its vaccination against coronavirus disease (COVID)-19, March 9 at Doña Maria D. Tan Memorial Hospital (DMDTMH).

The vaccination rollout commenced as 164 health workers from the Doña Maria D. Tan Memorial Hospital received their first dose of the vaccine.

To allay fears of the public and fellow frontliners, DMDTMH Chief Dr. Janice Castolo-Biete volunteered to be inoculated first with the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine.

“I know many of you are still scared to be vaccinated. That is why I am volunteering myself to assure and show everyone that this is safe and effective. Disregard your fears and doubts now and let's unite to end the pandemic," she said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ian Gonzales of the Department of Health (DOH)-10 said the vaccine is the best protection an individual can have in the long run.

“I know that only vaccines can give us protection in the long run. If we don't have a vaccine, the possibility of getting COVID-19 is still high," he said.

Gonzales also explained that the vaccination aims to reduce the number of deaths and infections of the virus as well as strengthen the country's health system.

Showing support during the vaccination rollout of DMDTMH were City Officials led by Tangub Vice Mayor Alberto Peñas along with members of the City COVID Taskforce, Chairman of the Committee on Health of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Tata Paylaga Lim, PHO Officer Dr. Ben Adona, and Provincial Administrator Edemar Alota representing the provincial government.

DMDTMH is the primary COVID-19 hospital facility in the province. (SMRN/PIA Misamis Occidental)
