6 Capiz' parishes open 'jubilee door'

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, April 30 (PIA) -- His Emminence Jose F. Cardinal Advincula led the opening of the Jubilee Door of Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral (ICMC) here recently in view of the quincentennial anniversary celebration of Christianity in the country.

"We have identified parishes as pilgrimage churches in the Archdiocese where the jubilee door will be opened so the devotees can visit for plenary indulgence," he said during an Easter Sunday mass at the ICMC.

These pilgrim sites are at St. Monica Church in Panay town, St. Joseph the Worker Church in Pres. Roxas town, St. Martin of Tours Church in Dumalag town, St. Catherine of Alexandria Church in Mambusao town and St. Thomas of Villanova Church in Dao town.

There are about 537 pilgrimage churches under 85 dioceses in the country for Catholics to visit from April 4 to April 22, 2022.

An article of the major seminary of the Archdiocese of Capiz, Sancta Maria Mater et Regina Seminarium, posted in its social media page said "during the Jubilee, Catholics can obtain special indulgences or the remission of their sins if they fulfill certain conditions and do good works or make pilgrimages."

According to the Vatican, a Holy Year should also be a time of reconciliation with adversaries and an occasion to promote solidarity, hope, and justice in the world.

A Holy Year, also known as a Jubilee, usually happens once every 25 years unless a Pope calls an extraordinary jubilee year to call the attention of a particular issue or to celebrate a momentous event, said part of the article.

Pope Francis has granted a jubilee year with the inherent plenary indulgence to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Christianity's arrival in the Philippines. (JBG/AAL/PIA Capiz)
