DA-4A continuously distribute high yielding corn seeds to boost corn production

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, April 30 (PIA) --The Department of Agriculture (DA)-4A has been continuously distributing high yielding corn seeds to farmers associations (FAs) to boost the corn production in the region.

About 300 kilograms of hybrid glutinous corn seeds, 96 bags of yellow corn seeds, and 100 bags of hybrid yellow corn seeds were turned-over to Malabanban Sur FA of Candelaria and Sariaya Corn FA of Quezon, and San Pablo City Corn FA on April 28, 2021.

OIC-Regional Executive Regional Director Vilma M. Dimaculangan and OIC-Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations and Regional Corn Banner Program Coordinator Avelita M. Rosales led the turn-over of interventions to FA beneficiaries.

Aside from corn seeds, the FAs were also provided with bags of complete fertilizer, urea fertilizers, and bottles of insecticide.

According to DA-4A, the distribution of corn inputs is part of the Corn Model Farm Project which aims to increase the production of corn, the second most important crop in the country.

The corn seeds distributed are expected to yield at least 3 metric tons/hectare for white corn and 5 metric tons/hectare for yellow corn. All proceeds of the harvested corn crops shall be used to buy additional inputs that can be utilized by the farmers for their next planting season.

“Kami po ay nagpapasalamat. Tunay nga po na lahat ng galing sa taas [government] ay nadadama ng farmers. Sana ay magtuloy-tuloy ang ganitong mga naipamamahagi dahil lahat naman po ng mga ito ay naibibigay sa farmers,” Sariaya Corn FA President Domingo Marasigan said. (PIA-4A with report from Reina Beatriz P.
