TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, April 23 (PIA) – A P120 million 4.8 kilometer bypass road will soon be constructed in Iguig town in order to ease heavy road traffic and induce development opportunities here.
Cagayan Third District Representative Jojo Lara, who led the groundbreaking ceremony last Friday, said that trade and commerce is expanding outside Tuguegarao City and that there is a need to develop its neighboring towns like Iguig, Peñablanca, Solana, Enrile, Tuao, and perhaps even the whole of the third district.

Expected to start within three years, Lara said that P50 million was allocated for the road project in 2021, plus another P50 million in the next year, and P70 million or more in the third year. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will be the implementing agency for the project.
Iguig Mayor Ferdinand Trinidad said that apart from other ongoing development programs in his town, the bypass road is a significant project deemed as highly beneficial for his constituents.
The bypass road is also expected to stimulate the opening of opportunities for farmers as it can serve as a farm-to-market road where farmers can have access to bringing their products to the town proper without paying much for transportation.
On the other hand, Lara added that the funding from the government is not unlimited, hence, it must be spent wisely based on the needs of the people and the goal to make their lives easier.
Lara said that aside from the bypass road, other infrastructure projects that will lead to tourism destinations are now underway.
“Since we cannot travel abroad or outside the region, we encourage our people to enjoy and discover their own tourism destinations that is why roads that will lead to such places should be constructed,” Lara added.
Under his administration, he said that he considers permanent solutions to permanent problems. These include ease of road traffic, road access, and overflow bridges among others. (JCK/GVB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
