Marawi commences construction of halal slaughterhouse

MARAWI CITY, Apr. 1 (PIA)--The city will soon have its own halal slaughterhouse in Brgy. East Calocan after the groundbreaking for its construction kicked off on March 25.

The groundbreaking ceremony, led by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DSHUD) Secretary and Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) Chairperson Eduardo Del Rosario, DHSUD Undersecretary Zyril Carlos, TFBM Field Office Manager Asec. Felix Castro Jr., and Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra, started the Php42 million construction with the funds from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management - Marawi Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Program (NDRRM-MRRRP).

Del Rosario assured that with the just-started foundation of the slaughterhouse, the aim of 100% completion for the rehabilitation of the city will still be attained.

“Nagstart tayo ngayon ng groundbreaking [We are now starting the groundbreaking] and they will start the implementation by April. So, in six months' time, this will be completed. We are still in the December timeline,” he said.

Gandamra bared that the implementing agency for the said project is the Department of Agriculture - National Meat Inspection Service (DA-NMIS) while the local government’s contribution was the provision for the land where it will be constructed.

“Alam po natin na ito ay makakadagdag sa pag-usbong ng ekonomiya. Itong slaughterhouse ay napakalaking tulong para nang sa gayon ay maayos ang ating pagprocess ng ating pagkatay ng mga livestock o food animals. It can also give employment dito mismo sa barangay because we will need personnel to man the facility,” said Gandamra.

[We know that this can help in the progress of our economy. This slaughterhouse is a big help so that the processing of our livestock or food animals will be appropriate and correct. This can also give employment here specifically in this barangay because we will need personnel to man the facility.]

Constituents of the city and Brgy. East Calocan also shared how beneficial the slaughterhouse will be after its completion.

“Iyong mga daanan namin dito, at least maaayos na rin. Kung malalagay na dito itong slaughterhouse, iyong ibang areas na walang magandang kalsada, malalagyan na ng kalsada kasi kung papasok ka, walang daanan,” conveyed East Calocan Barangay Captain Geneva Ala Gumambao.

[Our passages here, at least, they will be fixed. If the slaughterhouse is put here, other areas that do not have good roads will have one because if you go here, there is no road.]

They added that this will also serve as an instrument to welcome other projects in the area. (CRG/PIA-ICIC)
