GINGOOG CITY, Misamis Oriental, Mar. 31 (PIA)--The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) alongside its partner stakeholders held a formal signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to strengthen educational, scientific, and industrial collaboration in support of its Agropolis Technopark project in the province.
Hosted by the City of Gingoog, the MOA signing was participated by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR)-10, Department of Tourism (DOT)-10, Department of Environmental and Natural Resources (DENR)-10, representatives of the Local Government Units (LGUs) of Gingoog, Claveria, Magsaysay, and Medina, and the Korean Chamber of Commerce.
USTP-Claveria Vice-Chancellor for Finance and Administration Clint Pacana said through the establishment of Science and Technology Parks in key areas in the region, they hope to provide a sustainable mechanism for agricultural research and aid in the discernment of the area’s agricultural issues.
“What we envision is a smart agriculture banner program since these areas (Gingoog, Claveria, Magsaysay, and Medina) are mainly agriculture-based economies, so far, our LGUs have a positive response to the establishment of the Agropolis,” he said.
In addition to building on the participating government agency’s agricultural initiatives, the USTP have also develop a technical working group for the development and consolidation of its two programs: first, to launch and enhance ‘smart communications’ to bridge the gap between modern agricultural technology and updates to farmers, and second, to integrated development planning in convergence areas for development (CAPDev) areas.
Gingoog City Mayor Erick G Cañosa welcomed the project and disclosed that in order to achieve their vision of making the city an inclusive and sustainable one, they need stakeholders and partners from the different industries in the public and private sectors, such as the Korean Chamber of Commerce and USTP to fully utilize their skills and resources and achieve a mutually beneficial goal.
“We cannot do this alone, but with your help and support, we can make Gingoog, Claveria, Magasaysay, and Medina, a better place to live and we are now geared towards progress,” he said. (VPSBautista/PIA10)
